Failure to stay erect is usually due to tiredness, stress, anxiety or alcohol, and is not a cause for concern.
Then I stopped getting morning hard-ons. That was the first real sign that something was wrong. Over the next 12 months, things got progressively worse. Masturbation and sex became increasingly difficult - the moment I stopped stimulating it, my penis would go soft. I’m sure my girlfriend at the time noticed something wasn’t right but it was just too awkward to talk about it.

There are various over the counter supplements and herbs that promise to enhance erections. One thing that has been proven time and time again is that because these substances are not regulated, there is no way to guarantee that the supplement contains the correct herb or is in a safe and correct dose. Multiple studies examining ED supplements show that the majority of them are laced with pharmaceutical ED medications like Viagra, at times in doses that are not safe to the public. Broward Urology Center does not promote any herbal or OTC ED supplementation at this time. Stay Updated on Social Media Home Our Team Treatments Patient Info Common Conditions Contact

As HIV is associated with increased risk of heart disease, the link between erectile dysfunction and heart disease is of particular importance for men living with HIV. Impotence may be an early marker for undiagnosed heart disease. If you are living with HIV and having difficulty getting an erection, you should have a thorough cardiovascular risk assessment done and any risk factors for heart disease should be addressed.
In randomized placebo-controlled trials, an estimated 60% of men with diabetes, and 80% of men without diabetes experienced improved erections with sildenafil.
Forty-three percent of women and 31% of men have some form of sexual dysfunction, with obesity and a lack of exercise often being factors, according to the National Institutes of Health. A study published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine found men with either a high waist circumference or elevated BMI were 50% more likely to have erectile dysfunction, while approximately half of obese women reported problems with sexual activity, desire and performance, at least some of the time, in a study published in Obesity.
With 50% of all men between the ages of 40 and 70 likely to experience it to some degree, we look at how exercise can help to manage this condition.

As men age, the amount of testosterone in their bodies gradually declines. Although a direct cause and effect relationship between testosterone deficiency and erectile dysfunction has not been proven, decreased testosterone levels in patients with erectile dysfunction have been observed in clinical settings.
Professor Vlachopoulos noted that changing hypertensive medications in men with erectile dysfunction must be handled with caution. He said: “First, if a co-existing disease dictates using a specific drug category (for example, beta blockers for coronary artery disease and heart failure, diuretics for heart failure), then switching is not advocated. Alternatives might be considered if patients are at risk of stopping lifesaving therapy because of the detrimental impact of erectile dysfunction on their life.”
The next new treatments for erectile dysfunction will probably be improvements in some ED drugs already being used. "A dissolvable form of Levitra that you put under your tongue is coming that may work more quickly than the pills we have now," says Feloney. A new form of alprostadil may make it possible for you to rub it directly on the penis instead of inserting or injecting it. And newer phosphodiesterase inhibitors that last even longer and cause fewer side effects are being developed. Stay tuned!
These medicines augment an erection but do not actually induce the erectile response.
Stability ball is one of the most versatile exercise equipment out there. You can use it to stretch and strengthen any part of your body. Vidyut, for instance, has incorporated it into his kalari sutra workout. He has placed his feet atop it while being in a plank position and pushed his hips upward and downward in an alternate motion, so as to stretch and strengthen the joints. When you do this exercise, make sure you maintain proper balance and stop your legs from falling off the stability ball. Go down on all fours. Place your palms on the floor in line with your shoulders. Lift your legs off the floor and place them on a stability ball. Keep your elbows and knees straight. Raise your hips to make a mountain with your body. Lower your hips and bring them as close to the floor as possible without touching it. Repeat in a seamless motion.

The Men's Health Forum are working hard pushing for more action on this from government, from health professionals and from all of us. Why are men more affected and what can we do about it? We need the data. We need the research. We need the action. Currently we're the only UK charity doing this - please help us.
