The definite verdict on testosterone therapy is still out. Testosterone therapy is accepted as a treatment for hypogonadism, a clearly defined medical condition.
Impotence treatments were discussed in the oldest Chinese text, The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine, which describes traditional Chinese medicine during the time of the Yellow Emperor’s rule which ended around 2600 BC. One of the treatments for impotence discussed is a potion with 22 ingredients.4
There are two main causes of ED: physical and psychological. Most doctors agree that the majority of cases are physical but it's also clear that many men with ED also quickly start to feel anxious, stressed or depressed. These feelings can easily make the symptoms of ED worse. Relationship conflicts Stress and anxiety Depression (90% of men affected by depression also have complete or moderate ED) Unresolved sexual orientation Sexual boredom

NO is one of the key molecules involved in getting an erection. It works by dilating (widening) blood vessels in the penis, allowing more blood to flow into it, which is how an erection takes place. Anything that disrupts its production is bad news for strong erections.
Want to lower your blood sugar? Learn to better control your glucose levels by preventing blood sugar spikes and swings to avoid neuropathy and other diabetes complications. Find foods that lower blood sugar, and identify foods and activities that raise high blood sugar risks.
While ED is not life threatening, the condition may result in withdrawal from sexual intimacy, reduced quality of life, decreased working productivity, and increased healthcare utilization. Patterns of care may shift away from surgical and device therapies provided by urologists and toward pharmacologic treatments and/or multidisciplinary approaches. With men increasingly seeking to preserve sexual function and quality of life as they age, the treatment of ED will take on even greater importance in the years to come.
A hydraulic implant consists of a pump, reservoir, and two cylinders placed within the erection chambers of the penis. The pump releases a saline solution from the reservoir to the chambers to cause an erection and later removes the solution to deflate the erection. There is also a model that only has the pump and two cylinders.A penile prosthesis is composed of two semi-rigid but bendable rods that are placed inside the erection chambers of the penis. The penis can then be manipulated to an erect or unerect position.
Testosterone products are approved to treat men who have hypogonadism (low testosterone levels). ED can be one of the symptoms of low testosterone. However, it is not clear if these products are helpful for ED in men who have hypogonadism. They should not be prescribed to men who have normal testosterone levels. Doctors are concerned that these products are being overprescribed due to increased advertising, and not medical need.
In the first study of its kind, experts analysed data from 650 men who used pelvic floor exercises to combat their ED and premature ejaculation.
In this study, ED proceeded CVD in almost 70% of cases. Similarly, many men with ED have been found to have pre-existing CVD. A study by Vlachopoulos et al evaluated the incidence of asymptomatic CVD in 50 men with ED.22 These authors found that 19% of men with ED had asymptomatic CVD. Similarly, Mulhall and colleagues found that 20% of men presenting with ED and vascular insufficiency on penile duplex had asymptomatic CVD.23
So what’s going on here? Why does having more sex keep the male organ in trim instead of wearing it out? The likely elixir is oxygen, says study lead author Dr. Juha Koskimäki, consulting urologist at Tampere University Hospital -- specifically, oxygen molecules summoned to particular parts of the penis by erections.
Some endocrine conditions are associated with erectile dysfunction and include those that cause a low testosterone level (hypogonadism), although the mechanism by which this results in erectile dysfunction is not yet fully known, and some men can continue to have normal sexual function despite low levels of testosterone. Prolactin is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland within the brain. Certain conditions can cause a raised prolactin level (hyperprolactinaemia), which can suppresses the production of other hormones (called luteinising hormone, LH, and follicle stimulating hormone, FSH) from the pituitary gland, and therefore in turn result in low testosterone levels. Low testosterone levels can subsequently predispose to erectile dysfunction.
Despite conflicting findings in clinical studies, men should monitor the effects of alcohol use on erectile function. Alcohol can lower testosterone levels, decrease blood flow into the penis, and cause fatigue. At least in some men, alcohol can exacerbate symptoms of E.D.
